Hi Ladies! This is the third week of my “Girl Boss Monday” series, some of these articles are really interesting and I hope you’ll take the time to read at least one or two of them as you go about your day. I realize it’s Tuesday but the week is already flying by and I am running a bit behind, forgive the misnomer in the post’s title!

1- This is a great article about the history of fashion combined with new disruptions in technology, I found it extremely interesting that the idea of couture or fashion houses were not around until after the 1900s, prior to that time period if you wanted a dress or a beautiful item of clothing the matriarch of the family would sew it OR if you were wealthy enough you could hire a seamstress. It is often easy to forget that the rapid cycling in and out of stores of different clothing styles is only a very recent phenomenon, so if you’re interested in learning more, you can read more here
2- Sephora is one of my favorite retailers and I am happy to report that they just became even more likable, Sephora is helping female beauty entrepreneurs through the creation of their own tech incubator. Sephora is going to provide funding and mentorship to female founders as part of a larger social justice initiative for the company, the incubator is called “SEPHORA ACCELERATE”… read more here This is perhaps another great reason to purchase copious amounts of makeup from my favorite store 🙂
3- Salesforce spent approximately 3 million dollars to close the gender pay gap and ensure that the salaries of their female employees were on par with their male employees, more here
4-Ellevate Network (a women’s career and empowerment network that provides mentorship, networking, information, events, etc.) published an article the other day and there were some very neat financial tips for women… for example: if you make $85,000 a year, asking for a raise to place your salary as equivalent to a man’s level can net you an additional $1.7 million dollars over the course of your life. Takeaway? Negotiate and ask for that raise ladies! here
5- This last article is from NPR and while it isn’t directly related to female empowerment or women in business, it is very useful financial advice, especially if you’re a recent graduate and curious about your finances. The article is based on a podcast that essentially states that all the personal finance advice you need to know can be found on an index card, read the rationale and what’s written on the index card here
